Composition

This large, luxury and weighty pin cushion is unique. The triple thickness cover is made from hand-dyed fabrics and fragments of repurposed sari silk collected whilst travelling in India. After handcrafting the cover Amanda's cushions are filled with ground walnut shells, this helps keep pins sharp and bright.

The extra weight feels satisfying to hold and helps the cushion balance on any surface. The larger size means the pins don't poke through the other side!

Amanda crafts her cushions as miniature artworks.

Countless discussions about Natural dyeing and natural ink making continue on this last day of the @steyningarts trail. Meeting old friends and making new ones along the way has been a joy over the last two weekends. Chatting about @jennydean298 and
Buckthorn Bberrirs were an important source of colour during the medieval period. They give a colourfast yellow when unripe, and when fully ripened they yield a strong green that was used as ink for illuminating manuscripts and illustrating bibles. S
