Composition

This scarf is made from 80% wool, hand-dyed by Amanda using indigo and fibre reactive dyes. Whilst cosily thick it is a lightweight wool felt.

Dimensions

Two pieces of wool fabric measuring 85cm x 44cm are folded horizontally along the 85cm length to make a four-layered cowl that wraps neatly around the neck and is secured with a button. Meandering lines of hand-stitching keep the folded form in place.

Care

A gentle warm handwash, gentle re-shape and flat dry will keep your scarf fresh for years to come.

This is part two of the 2 days at Sussex Prairies last week. These photos are all about the solar jar dyes that were put together. In just 24 hours the warmth of the sun moved the colour from the flower petals to the fabrics and yarns. The Coreopsis
My first two day Natural Dye course took place last week and it couldn't have been a better two days. Lovely people full of enthusiasm and grit to get through 6 dye baths and a solar jar experiment for each person in two days. Fitting in some practic
What a pleasure it was, as always, to visit @jennydean298 at her home a few days ago. @cath_bristow_prints @ruthcavabespoke and @amandadukeartist from the 2024 Ditchling Dyers group prepared a lovely picnic lunch to share with Jenny and Roger. Ruth b
It’s so exciting to see the Helichrysums blooming at Sussex Prairies Wild. I’m so pleased the butterflies love them. These are not for dyeing fabric (but worth a try) but for a special project brewing between Pauline and me, all will be r
When the sun is out there is no need for a lot of heat, the recent temperatures warm the steel pot plenty. I picked some common Gorse Bush (Ulex europaeus) in late April and after the horrendous effort to take the flowers from the thorny stems I left
Can you guess what plant dyes fabric and yarn these colours? its found locally, usually by the roadside. It's an ancient dye plant. Apparently it was used to dye the robes of the Vestal Virgins in Roman times. Nowadsys it is overlooked on scrubland.
